The project included travertine crazy paving, engineered concrete footings, masonry boundary walls, retaining structures, fencing and gates, concrete driveway and pathways, surface drainage, subsoil drainage, contemporary planting and new turf.
The finished result combines practical landscape construction and long-term drainage performance with a relaxed Mediterranean-inspired coastal character.

ENGINEERED LANDSCAPING & DRAINAGE FROM THE GROUND UP
As an experienced Sydney builder, Trade Constructions approached this Beacon Hill landscaping project as a complete external construction package rather than simply a paving and planting installation.
Groundwater and surface water entering from properties on the higher side of the site required careful drainage planning. Subsoil drainage was installed to intercept and manage groundwater, together with dedicated surface drainage points throughout the external areas.
Finished surfaces were graded away from the building at approximately 1:50 through the first metre, before continuing towards nominated drainage points at approximately 1:100 to promote positive drainage and minimise the potential for ponding around the home.
Concrete blinding slabs were constructed beneath the travertine paved areas to provide a stable substrate, reduce the potential for movement and cracking, limit unwanted growth through paving joints and improve moisture management beneath the finished surfaces.
The structural landscaping works also included engineered concrete footings, masonry boundary walls, concrete retaining structures, a built-in bench seat, concrete pathways and driveway works.
MEDITERRANEAN-INSPIRED LANDSCAPING FOR NORTHERN BEACHES LIVING
Natural travertine crazy paving became the defining finish throughout this Beacon Hill landscaping project, creating the warm and relaxed character associated with Mediterranean and European coastal environments.
The travertine extends throughout the external pathways and is also used as natural stone cladding to sections of the newly constructed front boundary walls, creating a consistent material palette between the landscaping, entry and architecture of the home.
Trade Constructions constructed the engineered footings and masonry boundary walls before completing the travertine cladding, fencing and gate installation. Curved rendered planters, concrete retaining elements, contemporary planting and new turf were then incorporated to soften the hard landscaping and introduce layers of colour and texture.
The combination of natural stone, white rendered surfaces, coastal-style planting and outdoor living areas creates a practical family landscape that complements the home and its location close to Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
With the family remaining at the property during construction, the works were carefully staged to maintain safe access while managing noise, dust and disruption.
